Intermittent Fasting…Give Me a Break…You are Supposed to Eat Every 2 Hours!

You may or may not have heard of intermittent fasting (IF), but it is getting a lot of attention in the nutrition, health, and wellness industry. Many health practitioners and people say intermittent fasting has multiple benefits, including weight loss, increasing cognitive abilities, increasing energy, improving sleep, reducing pain and preventing, improving, or curing many diseases. However, since fasting goes against everything you have previously been told, such as make sure you eat every 2 hours, never miss a meal, and breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you’re probably asking yourself if intermittent fasting is the real deal.

What is Intermittent Fasting?

In the nutrition industry, the term intermittent fasting refers to a wide range of different types of nutritional interventions, including:

True fasts (aka. Intermittent Fasting)

  • These are greater than or equal to 24 hours of pure fasting (water allowed).
  • Usually, they do not extend greater than 7 days.
  • They can be implemented in a variety of ways.
